DIOGUARDI is a trouser-focused brand that offers pants exclusively, created from the perspective of a dedicated trouser tailor. Signature Trousers is one of the brand’s main lines.

For the debut collection of this line, “Mr. Flow,” each piece was made using carefully selected fabrics chosen by the designer and crafted in collaboration with skilled tailors. The collection consists of nine styles, numbered 001 through 009.

This piece, “009 Left Important,” is derived from “002 Signature,” the brand’s distinctive icon silhouette featuring a deep rise, drop crotch, and a gradual taper toward the hem.

At first glance, the design may appear highly conceptual. However, once you appreciate the quality of the tailoring, the fabric, and above all, the silhouette when worn, you will find that these trousers are far more elegant and wearable than you might expect.

Below, we introduce the piece based on a discussion with the designer, Daniel Dioguardi, about its concept and design.

This asymmetric construction is based on the concept of bringing two contrasting qualities together in a single pair of trousers. The elevated left side creates the elegant impression of high-waisted trousers, while the lower right side offers the relaxed feel of wearing trousers lower on the hips.

This allows you to enjoy a contrast in styling: tuck in a T-shirt or shirt and wear them high-waisted, or wear them lower on the hips with sneakers for a more casual look.

The front pleats, which are generally positioned symmetrically, have been shifted from their conventional placement and arranged so that they wrap around the body.

This is not merely a decorative detail. It has been intentionally designed to create asymmetric volume, resulting in more organic movement and a distinctive silhouette.

Traditional tailoring canvas, commonly used in tailored jackets, has been placed inside the elevated left side of the waistband.

This interlining plays an important role in the design of the 009 Left Important. It maintains a clearly asymmetric, structured form when new, then gradually responds to the wearer’s body and changes into a shape that follows their individual movement over time.

“Structure” is an element deeply connected to DIOGUARDI’s work. However, the brand never treats it as something overly precious or pushes it too far toward formality. This sense of balance is one of its defining qualities.

The designer’s intention—to place emphasis on the relationship between structure and the movement of the body—can be clearly felt in this piece.

The fabric is a trouser-weight blend of polyester, viscose, and elastane made in Italy.

It combines the refined appearance and drape associated with tailoring with comfort and practicality.

The trousers are available in two colors, grey and black. The grey fabric is lighter and suitable for three seasons—spring, summer, and autumn. The black fabric is somewhat heavier and is better suited to autumn and winter.
