Tonka Kumaru is Atelier Materi's work on the theme of tonka bean.
Atelier Materi's scents carefully bring out each material's character and suit grown-up tastes. Tonka Kumaru, too, is a refined gourmand centered on the charm of tonka bean.
"Gourmand" may bring to mind candy-like sweetness or something a bit casual, but Atelier Materi's interpretation is so noble and fragrant that the brand's refinement may surprise you all over again.
The creamy nuttiness and warm sweetness of tonka bean meet the milky nuance of Madagascar vanilla, and musk entwined with a faint animalic touch leaves a quietly sensual trail on the skin.
Though sweetness leads, it's gentle and calm, a gourmand that suits quiet time indoors. With the warmth of tonka and vanilla, it makes me imagine pairing Tonka Kumaru with a fine cashmere knit in crisp, dry, cold air.
Alongside the brand's signature Cacao Porcelana, it's an impressive work for understanding Atelier Materi's take on gourmand. Trying it may change your impression of the genre a little. I'd like even those who think of gourmands as casual to try it once.

Tonka Kumaru is a gourmand, sensual scent that fully portrays the depth of tonka bean, carefully shaping every facet to bring out the material's unique character.
It opens with an almond-like tonka bean note, lifted by fresh bergamot and spicy cardamom.
In the heart, roasted barley and hay absolute emphasize the tonka's dry, warm nuance, and cedar leaf adds outline and depth.
Then in the base, roasted tonka bean quietly blooms.
The milky sweetness of Madagascar vanilla joins in, amber and musk add more depth and sensuality, and it flows into a warm, enveloping trail.
This fragrance was named as a homage to its core material.
"Tonka" evokes the warmth of almond, vanilla and hay, while "Kumaru" honors the tree that bears the bean and its origins.
Together, the two words speak of a material's story and its sensory depth: a work expressing the very journey from nature to scent.

ATELIER MATERI(アトリエマテリ)というブランド名は、「atelier = 工房」と北西フランスのブルターニュ地方のブルトン語で「matière = 素材 」という意味の単語の組み合わせから。
素材にこだわるブランドとして、伝統的な香料から珍しい香料まで、厳選されたサステナブルな天然香料を使用。
自然なエレガンスと大胆なコントラストを表現した作品を送り出すべく、調香師は丁寧に選ばれたマテリアルを用いて、丹精込めて香りを重ね合わせていくのです。
ディープブルーが印象的なボトルは、“Less is More（少ない方が豊かである）”という考え方からインスピレーションを受けたデザイン。
現代建築の象徴的素材であるコンクリートを用いたボトルキャップにはゴールドの筆跡があしらわれ、職人の手仕事を感じることが出来ます。
ボトルにはATELIER MATERIのメゾンロゴが刻印され、メゾンの美学と細部への拘り、職人への敬意を表現し、パッケージはサステイナブルな木材を原料とした紙が使われています。
香水ボトルに必須な「スプレー」部分、アトリエマテリはそんな「スプレー」にも拘っています。
噴霧の細かいスプレーは香水を肌に乗せた時にも満遍なくムラにならずに肌に乗せることが出来ます。
