un-memories by tomo kishida

(For the full details of the event, please see theseparate article, and alsotomo kishida’s journal article.)

Clothes from the tomo kishida un-memories project

The photo shows the earliest Work Jacket and Cropped Pants, which I bought about nine years ago after meeting the DseconD designer and being shown the pieces he had been making before launching the brand.

I have worn them a great deal and they mean a lot to me, but recently they had often been waiting in my closet.

At that time, while talking with tomo kishida about planning an event, I remembered these clothes and decided, as a new endeavor, to carry out a project called “un-memories.”

First, to carry my memories on into the future, I entrusted this set-up to tomo kishida.

Production process of the tomo kishida un-memories project

The clothes are unpicked thread by thread and taken apart into their individual parts.

And after returning from "clothes" to "cloth," the cloth is carefully cut with shears into "thread."

Changing form from clothes to cloth and from cloth to thread, it will be rebuilt into new fabric by sakiori weaving (weaving with strips of cloth).

Trying many combinations of the original garment’s fabric color with the colors, materials and yarn counts of the warp and weft, and drawing on his experience of weaving all kinds of fabrics so far, he selects the best combination.

Then it is woven in one go.

From here on, even I have not yet seen it.

I am waiting for the moment when the fabric is woven, cut and sewn, and reborn as a new piece, and hope to present the real thing to you at this exhibition.

If, like me, you have treasured clothes that you no longer wear and would like them reborn as a new piece through tomo kishida’s "un-memories," please do consult the designer during the three days of the 14th, 15th and 16th.
