Debut album released in 2006

Pinhole

Rollo's debut album, released quietly at the end of 2006 by Inoxia Records, which has put out many works by the Japanese heavy rock band Boris.

It was released as an anonymous guitar duo, with no photos of the members and not even their names, and listeners kept mistaking it for a side project under a different name by its producer, Atsuo (Boris).

The members are Hideki Urawa and Ryo Takemura, a guitar duo who in recent years have worked as sound producers for Guruguru Brain artists such as Kikagaku Moyo, Satomimagae and Hitomi Moriwaki; at the time of recording they were 21-year-old students studying film at an art university.

The lo-fi sound, recorded by themselves, has a soft, faintly blurred outline, like a photograph taken with a pinhole camera.
Presenting the work anonymously, with no credits, may have been a wish for the kind of storytelling found in encountering clothes or furniture without brand tags at an antique market or flea market.

Combined with the sensibilities the two had at the time as film students, this work from the duo era can be called a collection of imaginary soundtracks.
